APRIL 13-14, 2019

A hackathon is best described as an “invention marathon”. Anyone who has an interest in technology attends a hackathon to learn, build and share their creations over the course of a weekend in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. You don’t have to be a programmer and you certainly don’t have to be in a Computer Science class.

KleinHacks is a high school hackathon that aims to inspire the next generation of innovators from around the Houston area. This spring, we are bringing together 200 - 400 young hackers and immersing them in a 24 hour innovation challenge.

We would love to answer any questions you might have. If you want to contact us, please email us at hi@kleinhacks.com.

  • FAQ

    Can I attend?

If you are a high school student within the Klein District, you are welcome to attend KleinHacks 2019!

    How does registration work?

Registration is open until approximately one week before the event! You will be notified of your admission within 1-3 days of your registration. Check your email for a confirmation from us.

    Does this cost money?

KleinHacks is free to all participants, thanks to our amazing sponsors!

    Will there be food?

Of course! Your meals for the weekend will be free and there’ll be plenty of snacks and drinks to keep you energized. If you’ve got specific dietary requirements, please let us know and we'd be more than happy to make arrangements.

    Where will I sleep?

Hacking all night is fun, but you can also get some rest when you need it! There will be supervised, protected rooms the hackers will have available to sleep in.

What kind of things will I learn at this event?

By attending KleinHacks, you have a world of opportunities open to you. You will be able to meet similar, enthusiastic, and intelligent people to work on your hacks with. While at the event, you will learn new languages, work with new APIs, create solutions to real world problems, and much more.

What if I don't know anybody there?

Not to worry! You’ll meet people when you get there. Everybody’s very friendly. A lot of people go to hackathons without teams, so it’s perfectly normal to go around to people, tell them you’re looking for a team, and ask if you can help out. We will also host a team-building session at the start of the event to help you meet people.

    What if I don’t have a team?

If you don’t have a team now, that’s okay! We’ll have team formation and ideation events geared towards helping you find people to work with.

Is this a high school only event?

Yes, this is a high school only event.

Where will the event take place?

KleinHacks 2019 will be held at Klein High School. The address is 16715 Stuebner Airline Rd, Klein, TX 77379. For a more detailed map of the area, click right here.

What if I don't know how to code?

Not a problem! The entire KleinHacks team knew very little when they attended their very first hackathon. It’s entirely irrelevant what your experience is going into a hackathon; it’s more about your interest in technology. We are passionate about making our hackathon very welcoming and beginner-friendly.

Will there be a safe area to store my belongings?

Yes! There will be a safe, supervised area in which you can put stuff that you don't want to carry with you the entire time.

    Where’s the schedule?

    View KleinHacks 2019 Schedule!

Will I annoy people if I ask them questions?

Not at all! This is a common misconception about hackathons and in actual fact, it’s the complete opposite. The environment at our event is designed specifically to encourage everyone to have fun and help each other. If you’re ever stuck on anything, go find a volunteer who might able to help and if not, they will almost certainly know who can.

    How should I behave?

All hackers must abide by both the Klein ISD Student Handbook and the MLH Code of Conduct.

What if I don't have an idea?

That’s normal. Most people don’t have an idea before they get to the event. But once you start talking to other people, you'll be sure to come up with something. You can also work with somebody else on their idea if you like it. And there will be prizes at the event which might help give you some ideas. Don’t worry about it, you’ll find something to work on!

What if this FAQ didn’t answer my questions?

Please email us at hi@kleinhacks.com if you’re in any way confused or concerned! We’d love to help you out :)
